Evaluating a student's level and progress

In order to assess language skills and identify the specific needs of each learner, a comprehensive three-part audit is carried out prior to the start of training:

  • Written test
  • Oral test
  • Needs analysis

The results of the audit, which enable us to position the learner's level on the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) scale and define clear training objectives, are recorded in an initial assessment report written by the tester and sent to the HR department.

Throughout the course, instructors continuously measure trainee progress using BTL-selected pedagogical tools, such as level tests and quizzes. All our programs and course materials are defined by their CEFR level, and enable the learner's progress to be tracked by skill (e-mailing, meetings, oral communication, etc.). Our trainers are asked to validate each step before moving on to the next level. This validation system enables us to keep better track of skills acquired and those to be improved.

At the end of the course, the teacher evaluates the learner's language level on the CEFR scale and draws up a detailed pedagogical evaluation report, responding to the initial report produced by the tester. This final report summarizes the learner's level of proficiency in each skill, identifying strengths and areas for improvement, noting the learner of his or her future learning objectives and making recommendations for the next cycle.

Customized language training

The audit of the learner's level and needs is the subject of an individualized report which includes :

  • Initial grade and learner level according to the CEFR scale
  • The context of their exchanges in the target language: nature, frequency, types of interlocutor
  • Long-term objectives, depending on which skills need to be mastered in their role
  • Short-term professional objectives and skills to be targeted during the course
  • A learning program.

Training content is defined by the teacher, taking into account the learner's specific needs as indicated during the initial assessment and at the time of the first class. The teacher then regularly checks in with the learner regarding their requirements, in order to adapt the content if necessary.

How we monitor training courses and do follow-up

BTL provides comprehensive pedagogical and administrative support for language training courses.

When it comes to Blended Learning courses with e-learning, the teacher initiates the learner to the use of the e-learning tool, indicates the work to be done between courses, assists in browsing the available resources and checks the work done. The teacher can be contacted via the platform's internal messaging system or directly by e-mail, should any pedagogical questions arise.

BTL sends monthly attendance sheets and provides access to an administrative tracking platform, enabling you to consult the progress of training courses, and including alerts to draw attention to any problems: suspended cycles, attendance problems, late cancellations, unnotified cancellations.

Our platform provides monthly and cumulative reporting, including: courses in progress, completed courses, suspended cycles with motive and planned resumption date, attendance statistics (hours of attendance or absence and explanations), e-learning platform connection rate, and cumulative attendance. These reports are reviewed monthly by our sales and training teams. They are also sent to training managers.

This system enables BTL to take corrective action where necessary with trainees and/or teachers. Such procedures help us to limit absenteeism and maximize teacher accountability, trainee commitment and training effectiveness.
